- Does Your Client Need Employer Accreditation?
If your client currently employs migrant workers—or has done so recently—it’s highly likely they will continue to do so in the future. In that case, it’s important to determine whether employer accreditation is required.
Accreditation Is Required If:
- Your client is looking to hire or support migrant workers (non-New Zealand citizens or residents) for roles under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
- The migrant worker either:
- -Does not yet hold a valid work visa, or
- -Holds a restricted visa tied to another employer and job.
Accreditation Is Not Required If:
- Your client does not plan to hire migrants under the AEWV category.
- They are only employing migrants who already hold open work visas, which allow them to work for any employer in New Zealand without sponsorship.
Why This Matters for Recruiters
As a recruiter, it is essential to verify that any migrant candidate you’re placing can meet the immigration requirements relevant to the role. Even if a candidate successfully passes interviews and selection, they cannot begin working unless they have the appropriate work rights approved by Immigration New Zealand. Failing to confirm this upfront may result in delayed placements, compliance issues, and resource wastage.
Understanding the AEWV 3-Step Process
Hiring under the Accredited Employer Work Visa involves a structured 3-step process:
- Employer Check (Accreditation)-> The employer must first gain accreditation from Immigration New Zealand.
- Job Check-> The job role must be assessed and approved to ensure:
- -It’s genuine and necessary
- -It pays at or above market rate
- –It has been adequately advertised (if required)
- Visa Application-> Once the employer and job have passed both checks, the migrant candidate may apply for the AEWV.
Note: If your candidate requires visa support, the employer and job checks must be completed first. Without them, a visa application cannot be submitted.
At NZ Immigration Visa Ltd., we specialise in guiding employers and recruiters through this process—ensuring full compliance, timely applications, and successful hiring outcomes.
